The Partnership for LA Schools is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) with a goal to empower teachers and school sites. The Partnership is a nonprofit organization started by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa that is committed to the transformation of Los Angeles public schools so that all children in Los Angeles graduate from high school prepared for college and careers. The Partnership’s goal is to both dramatically improve student achievement within Partnership Schools and to create a model for collaboration, school reform and community advancement that can be replicated throughout Los Angeles schools.
Who we are
The Partnership will directly support and manage families of schools in partnership with LAUSD’s new Innovation Division (iDivision). In 2008-09, the Partnership will serve 10 elementary, middle and high schools that chose to become part of the Partnership through a vote of teachers and parents. Beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year, Partnership schools will have greater autonomy to manage their budgets, design their own school plans, and hire their own staff in exchange for greater accountability for improving school and student outcomes. The Partnership will also raise and direct additional resources to Partnership Schools so that schools can realize their unique visions. These Partnership schools will serve as models of reforms whose best practices will be shared with the iDivision and replicated throughout the District.
Our approach: empowering teachers and communities
Mirroring the pillars of the "Schoolhouse Framework" -- a 34 page policy document outlining the policies and programs the Partnership believes are needed to build successful schools in Los Angeles -- the overall foundation for the Partnership schools will center on core values of empowering teachers and principals; engaging parents and the community; providing additional resources in schools; and providing students with clean, safe and small schools (click here to review the “Schoolhouse Framework”) . Under the Partnership, each school will draw up comprehensive plans outlining the vision and goals for improving student achievement and the specific benchmarks for measuring that achievement. These plans will be made public and parents will receive an annual report measuring the school's progress.

The Teach Partnership LA campaign
Teach Partnership LA is an initiative of the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, in collaboration with LAUSD‘s iDivision, to recruit high-quality teachers for the ten Partnership Schools in Los Angeles. Teach Partnership LA offers a streamlined application and hiring process for outstanding teachers who are committed to putting their skills and experience to use in Los Angeles’ highest-need schools. Current LAUSD teachers, or applicants to LAUSD who express an interest in teaching in Partnership Schools, will have their resumes reviewed immediately upon submission. To be considered for a position, applicants who are not currently employed by LAUSD must fill out the Teach Partnership LA application. Accepted applicants will be asked to complete an LAUSD application as well.
